What is Morris Eisman's Birth Location?
As noted in "The Eysmann Family of Nancy France", Morris Eisman's birth certificate is not able to be found in relation to searches within France. We postulate that Morris was actually born in Zutphen, Netherlands and that he moved from the Netherlands with his parents to be closer to his mother's (Rose Cohen) family. It is possible that the Eismans spent time in Westphalia which is very near Zutphen. On his census data (1920), Morris's birthplace is listed as Holland. On other census (1910 and 1930) as well as his Death Certificate, all list his birthplace as Germany.
So, Is Morris Eisman Related to the "Eysmann Family of Nancy France"?
This question is a tricky one that we are currently in the process of investigating. It is at the heart of discerning who are members of the greater family tree. Rose Boyarsky, who compiled the previous anthology regarding our family (the blue "Eysmann Family of Nancy France"), lists Morris as being a sibling to Leopold, Jadok, Anne, David, and Rachel Eysmann. Their parent's names are listed Israel Eysmann and Rosette Eysmann. The biggest problem we are having is placing Morris Eisman in the same place as his supposed siblings. Morris is not listed on any paperwork that we have found so far, so we must consider the possibilities.
Arrival in the United States: Morris lists his arrival in the United States as somewhere between 1872 and 1873 (1910 & 1930 Census). His ostensible sibling, Leopold, lists his arrival in the United States as between 1889 and 1890, a full sixteen years later. David Eysmann lists his immigration date as 1885, 4 or 5 years before his brother.
Parents: Morris lists his parent's native tongue as "German - Yiddish" in the 1910 Census. In the 1920 Census, Morris lists that his father and mother were born in "Hanover Ger." In the 1930s Census, Morris lists both of his parents as being born in Germany. This is in stark contrast to Leopold Eysmann, who lists his father as born in Germany and his mother as born in France. David Eysmann lists his father as having been born in Holland and having traveled from Holland.
